DUBAI // A father-in-law has been fined Dh2,000 for insulting his daughter's ex-husband by calling him a pervert, cheat and thief.
HM, 51, an Emirati manager of a private company, was convicted by a Dubai Misdemeanours Court of issuing inappropriate insults to YH, an Emirati pilot.
Prosecutors said that at noon on July 8, YH went to his ex-wife's house to collect his children as he had visitation rights every Friday.
When he arrived at the house in Al Barsha, the housemaid informed him that the children and their mother, MH, were out.
"The Abu Dhabi Court gave me visitation rights from 1 to 8pm every Friday," said YH in his testimony.
Two hours later when he returned to see his children, YH said the defendant opened the door to him and told him he was a pervert who had sexual relations with other men.
"He accused me of stealing his daughter's money and of cheating on her with a thousand other women," YH told prosecutors.
YH then called the police.
HM confessed to the charge and said he was provoked by YH. "He accused me of lying when I told him the children were with their grandmother outside."
