DUBAI // Rock fans voting online have selected two heavy metal bands to open the upcoming Desert Rock Festival in Dubai. The Egyptian band Scarab and the German band Hatred will open the two-day festival, which starts on March 6 at Dubai Festival City. The Cairo-based band was formed in 2006, and released their first album, Blinding the Masses, last year. Hatred plays a style of 1980s rock popularly known as thrash metal. They have played a number of music festivals, including MetalCamp in Slovenia two years ago, and have a new album entitled Madhouse Symphonies.
The legendary metal band Motorhead will appear at Desert Rock in their first Middle East concert. The line-up also includes the local band Nervecell and international groups including Opeth, Chimaira, Arch Enemy and August Burns Red. * The National
