AJMAN // Twelve vehicles were damaged on Friday when scaffolding from a building construction site in Ajman fell during severe weather conditions.

Strong winds caused several iron bars to fall on the cars parked at the foot of the building on Sheikh Khalifa Road in Al Nuaimiya, said Lt Col Ghaith Al Kaabi, head of Nuaimiya police station.

“Policemen immediately closed part of the road and encircled the site to ensure the safety of individuals,” he said.

“There were no injuries but five vehicles were severely damaged while the other seven had minor damage.”

Ajman Civil Defence removed the scaffolding and handed the site over to police, said Col Nasser Al Zari, head of media and public relations.

The incident occurred on the same day a crane fell on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, injuring at least one person and damaging a hotel and several cars.

Meanwhile, in Umm Al Quwain, strong winds caused signboards to fall on to roads, although no injuries were reported, UAQ police said.

UAQ Public Works and Services Department has been working since early Saturday morning to remove the signboards and sand from roads across the emirate.
