ABU DHABI // Etihad Airways is expecting 230,000 passengers during Eid Al Adha, an increase of almost 20 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The busiest day for travelling will likely be Saturday, the airline said.

London, Bangkok, Manila, Sydney, New Delhi, Paris, New York, Melbourne and Munich are the top destinations during this period.

Passengers have been advised to check in online 24 hours before departure and arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to take-off.

“This year we have already introduced five new routes, with the addition of Kolkata, Madrid, Entebbe, Edinburgh and Hong Kong to our network,” said Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ chief commercial officer.

The Eid Al Adha holiday for staff at all government ministries and federal bodies will begin on Wednesday, with work resuming Sunday.

Private sector workers start their holiday on Wednesday and return on Saturday.
