DUBAI// A salesman who forged a tenancy contract and submitted it to the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department to get a residency visa for his wife was sentenced to three months in jail on Sunday.
The Criminal Court heard that Ethiopian NF, 26 forged a contract from Sharjah Municipality and then used it in Dubai on March 17 last year.
KA, an officer with the residency department testified that the defendant’s representative applied for a residency visa on N F’s behalf.
“When the tenancy contract in the documents submitted were double checked, we discovered that it was not found in the system of the Sharjah Municipality, therefore we reported the matter to N F’s sponsor and then to police,” she said.
A friend of the defendant told prosecutors that she provided him with the name and number of a man who previously helped a friend of hers get documents for a residency application.
“I just gave him the number of the man and after that I didn’t know what happened,” said ST, Nepali, 32.
NF will be deported after serving his jail term.
