FUJAIRAH // Residents are preparing for life outdoors again as the long summer heat comes to an end.

There has been a noticeable drop in temperatures in the mornings and afternoons, making stepping out bearable again.

Forecasters said the country can expect rain this weekend, and fitness fans and outdoor markets are preparing for the cooler weather.

“During hot weather it’s difficult to have a good stock of fruits and vegetables as everything is locally sourced, but when the weather cools down we have a much wider range,” said Alexia Lindstrom, of Ripe Markets.

“We will be launching the Ripe Market in Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi this Saturday and will also host other markets in Dubai in coming weeks.”

Over winter, the Ripe Market will take place every Saturday from 3pm to 10pm in Umm Al Emarat Park.

In Dubai it will start up every Saturday from October 22 in Times Square, 9am to 3pm.

It will also be held at Al Barsha Pond Park every Saturday from October 15 from 3pm to 9pm and at Zabeel Park every Friday from 9am to 3pm.

Outdoor fitness lovers are expected to be queuing up for beach boot camps. The owner and head trainer of b2b Fitness Services said he expected more participants in the coming days.

“It’s the perfect time to get ready for the beach season and be fit as the temperatures are getting lower and the weather is very suitable for outdoor exercise,” said Brendan Rawlings.

“Our boot camps will take place at Sports City from 7pm Monday to Wednesday and Saturday at 6.30pm.

“We are also looking to start a morning class, taking place at 6am, next month.

“Twenty to 40 people come down to participate in each class and the season usually stays until the end of April.”

Weather forecasters said scattered rain was likely this weekend, with fresh winds and limited visibility in eastern and northern areas of the country.

Heavy rain is expected in the mountainous areas of Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain.

“Mountainous can expect moderate to heavy rainfall during the upcoming three days,” said Dr Ahmad Habib, a meteorologist at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology.

“Fresh winds will cause dust formation and poor visibility but the weather will be much more stable in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.”

Temperatures have dropped by 4°C since last month, with average highs of 35°C and lows of 24°C in coastal areas and between 22°C and 39°C inland.
