A minor fire did not affect the oil and fuel storage area in Fujairah.

The emirate's media office said Tuesday's fire occurred at an oil waste processing company outside the oil industry zone.

Firefighters from Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah swiftly contained the flames and the factory in the Thawban area is operating as normal.

"The company where the fire broke out is not affiliated to the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone," said Capt Salem Al Hamoudi, the zone's director.

He said the accident was "incidental" and did not result in any injuries.

"The affected company has no relations whatsoever with the petroleum area."

The media office said some reports circulating on social media were not true and called on everyone to rely on official sources only.

Fujairah, on the UAE's east coast, is a major port and a busy storage and refuelling point for tankers taking crude oil out of the Arabian Gulf.
