Four of the country's six most important wetlands are facing pressure from coastal development, data released yesterday showed. The statement was made by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) following a nationwide study undertaken in mid-January.

The annual waterbirds census was carried out by 23 experts from government and non-government organisations, who visited 47 sites. The four most threatened waterbird areas were Bul Sayeef in Abu Dhabi, Ras al Khor in Dubai, Khor al Beidah in Umm al Qaiwain and Khor al Khawair in Ras al Khaimah.
