ABU DHABI // Two hundred smuggled sheep were confiscated by the Ministry of Environment and Water at the Al Madam port border from Oman on Sunday.
“In one truck, the smuggled animals were put behind boxes of food in an attempt to hide them, said Saif Mohammed Al Shara, the ministry’s assistant undersecretary for external audit. “This is a clear violation of federal legislations governing the importation of animals.”
He said the animals were in poor health and they were crammed into lorries during transport.
The move came as the ministry is intensifying efforts to protect the health and safety of UAE residents by preventing the spread of infectious animal diseases.
