KOR FAKKAN // Hundreds of mourners attended funeral prayers on Tuesday for Sgt Abdullah Mohammed Al Hammadi, who was killed serving in the UAE.
Family, friends and members of the Armed Forces joined the Emirati’s family at Omar bin Al Khatab Mosque in Khor Fakkan, and the burial ceremony at Khor Fakkan Cemetery.
Sgt Al Hammadi, 37, had three sons aged 8, 4 and 2, and a daughter aged 10. He had been working with the coastguard since 2004.
The family was told about his death yesterday at 2am.
“He was so kind to all of us and loved by all,” said his uncle, Abdulrahem Al Qadi.
“We received a call about the incident. They told us he was in Dibba Hospital.
“The news came as a shock to us. His children will miss him, as well as us. It is a huge loss to all of us and everyone is in shock.”
Sgt Al Hammadi had six brothers and four sisters, and was considered a role model to many.
“Everyone from the family used to get his advice and guidance on many things,” Mr Al Qadi said.
“He was wise and reliable. Good people leave us fast and we know that he is now in a better place. Members of the Armed Forces and many of his friends came to the funeral and offered their condolences to the family.
“Huge numbers came to support us during this hard time.
“He will always be remembered and will continue to be our source of pride.”
The General Command of the Armed Forces shared its condolences with the family, state news agency Wam reported.
