Emirati killed while jogging in Umm Al Quwain

A 36-year-old Emirati man died at the weekend when he was run over while jogging on Al Nayfa Street in Umm Al Quwain.

Police received a call at 6.30pm on Saturday reporting the accident. Police and an ambulance were immediately dispatched.

Mag Dr Saif Salem, chief of Al Salma General Police Station, said a Pakistani driver of a pick-up truck was to blame, as he had not seen the man jogging on the side of the road.

Maj Salem urged community members not to exercise or run along the road, especially on streets with poor lighting. He added that Umm Al Quwain’s many beaches are ideal locations for exercising and the “Al Bayt Mutwahid” path was specifically designed for such purposes.

He also urged motorists to exercise vigilance while driving, focus on the road and comply with speed limits to preserve their lives as well as others.
