Emirati boy dies after car flips in Ras Al Khaimah accident

Emirati boy was passenger and two others are severely injured in hospital after the crash.

RAS AL KHAIMAH // A 17-year-old Emirati has died and another two people have been severely injured after a car crash caused by reckless driving and speeding.

RAK Police said the accident happened at about 9pm on Saturday at Al Hulaylah, near the border with Musandam, when the car the teenager was travelling in hit a barrier and flipped several times, throwing passengers out of the vehicle.

Col Ahmed Al Naqbi, deputy head of traffic and patrols at RAK Police said the teenager, A R A, was one of two passengers, while the other passenger, S Q, and the driver, S H, 21, both Emirati, are still in intensive care at RAK Hospital suffering from severe injuries.

“The road speed limit is 100kph, it’s a two-lane road on both sides located in a rural area called Al Hulaylah,” he said.

“All three are living in the same area and due to speeding and reckless driving they lost their friend and now they are in a critical condition at the hospital.

“Their car smashed into the road barrier and flipped many times and they were thrown outside the vehicle.”

Colonel Suleiman Mohammed Hassan Al Kizi, chief of Al Rams Police Station, said the driver tried to control the vehicle but he lost all control over it because of excessive speed and it rolled several times.

Col Al Naqbi urged parents to keep an eye on their teenagers and always advise them about the risk of speeding and the reasons why they should adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
