Emirati author Alia Al Shamsi visited schools in Dubai to support the 2016 Year of Reading initiative.
Al Shamsi read excerpts of her book Alaya to pupils at Academia schools and shared her experience of writing, and the positive effect of reading on people's lives.
The event included workshops on the importance of reading in Arabic and English, developing reading methods and strategies for youngsters.
President Sheikh Khalifa announced 2016 as the Year of Reading to make the UAE a capital of culture and knowledge.
