The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (Esma) has launched an online service to help consumers confirm the quality of their products.
Consumers can validate the certification and star rating of their home appliances as well as submit violations on Esma’s Twitter account.
Tweets will automatically be checked for product certification and will reply back with the results from the authority’s database.
If a violation is found customers can file a complaint with a picture of the product, location of the store, as well as its brand and model number on Twitter.
Abdulla Al Maeeni, Esma director general, said the initiative was put in place so they could reach out to more citizens and residents through a medium which is continuously gaining popularity in the region.
“We encourage everyone to proactively participate in the quality control conversations taking place on our Twitter account.
“This will help us better promote safety at home and ensure the products available in the market conform to the standards issued by Esma and GCC Standardisation Organization,” he said.
