DUBAI // Emirates and Etihad airlines are expected to resume partial service between the UAE and New York tomorrow, following flight cancellations today because of Hurricane Irene.
Emirates Airline's website announced that flight EK201 from Dubai to JFK Airport in New York on Monday, August 29 will run with a three-hour and 30-minute delay, and will now depart at the new time of 12pm UAE time.
Flight EK202 from JFK to Dubai on Monday will operate as originally scheduled, departing at 11pm from New York City.
The resumption follows the cancellation of six Emirates flights between Dubai and New York today.
However, flights EK203 and EK204, which were scheduled for tomorrow, have been cancelled.
"Emirates continues to monitor the situation in New York and encourages passengers to check the {online} flight tracker...which is updated every 5 minutes," Emirates said in a statement on its website.
Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, said it also expected New York flights to resume tomorrow.
"Etihad will operate the larger A340-600 aircraft on the route, upgrading from A340-500 aircraft, to provide additional capacity," the airline said on its website. "Etihad is providing accommodation in Abu Dhabi for passengers currently in transit to New York."
Both airlines are offering passengers the option of rebooking their flights to and from New York.
