UAE School Olympics returns in May

Representatives of educational zones across the country are preparing to host the largest sporting event of its kind next month, with the first national qualifying rounds for the second UAE School Olympics which began on Monday.

The competition consolidates the principles of the Olympics and sports, while promoting the spirit of challenge, excellence and friendly competitiveness among students. The Olympic goals are aimed at laying down the foundations of school sports activities and in promoting fitness and physical health.

“The Ministry of Education adopted the School Olympics project for the many objectives it holds in parallel with the ministry’s strategic plan and the vision of the chairman of the National Olympic Committee [Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed]. Preparations are in full swing at the moment to ensure that the competition will be successful,” said Mahmoud Mansour, sports adviser at the Fujairah Education Zone.

“The School Olympics aim to position sports as a catalyst of excellence and skills building for the younger generation, with an objective of winning international Olympics medals.”

The finals will be in early May at the Dubai Police Officers Club and Al Wasl Club. They feature athletics, gymnastics and swimming.
