Abu Dhabi // Six Emirati graduates have won master's scholarships as the capital gears up for the opening of its major new art galleries.

The Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy has sponsored three scholars to study a master's degree in management of innovation at the LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome through the postgraduate Italy scholarship programme, which is now in its fourth year.

Three more are studying for a master's in history of art and museology at the Paris Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi.

The students are being prepared for the likes of the Louvre and Guggenheim, just some of the museums and galleries planned for Saadiyat Island, as well as other projects around the country.

The students in Rome, who are also learning Italian, are all graduates of the Higher Colleges of Technology, while those in Abu Dhabi graduated from the University of Sharjah, the American University of Sharjah and Zayed University.

Mohammed al Husseiny, the chief executive of Aabar Investments, which worked with Emirates Foundation to offer the programme, said it "contributes to the development of young Emirati minds in the field of arts and culture".

Suhail Mubarak al Ameri, the director general of General Holding Corporation, another company involved in the scholarships, said they "help to educate and develop future UAE leaders".
