ABU DHABI // A summer programme offered by Abu Dhabi Education Council returns next month with new activities and classes for public school pupils and their families.

The Sayfuna Mumayaz programme offers activities such as Jiu Jitsu and swimming as well as career preparation and skills classes.

Jiu Jitsu will be offered as special centres in line with Abu Dhabi’s vision to become a hub for the sport, and 600 pupils are expected to attend classes at six Jiu Jitsu centres across the emirate.

Swimming pools will be available for Adec pupils at 14 centres in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, catering separately to male and female pupils.

The My Profession and My Identity programmes are expected to attract 100 pupils in Grades 10 and 11. My Profession offers opportunities for Emirati pupils to work at Abu Dhabi organisations and gain skills that will help them in their careers, while My Identity promotes partnership among society, companies and organisations.

“What distinguishes Sayfuna Mumayaz this year is the various new activities and events which offer students opportunities to identify their needs in terms of technology sports and creativity, while promoting the concept of team work spirit and collaboration between students and parents, the values of culture and heritage, the importance of volunteering and social services,” said Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Adec’s school operations executive director.

The 2017 Summer Challenge is another Adec programme, offering courses on technology, English and life skills. Specialised courses are offered in subjects including IELTS preparation, future leadership, 3-D printing, Microsoft Office, graphic design and innovation, which is being offered for the first time this year.

The Summer Challenge will serve 1,500 pupils and provide academic guidance and introduce them to university facilities to prepare them for higher education.

Activities will be held at Abu Dhabi University and Al Ain University for Emirati pupils from Grades 8 to 11. Pupils who wish to join the programme can register at the universities from June 18 to 22, from 9am to 4pm.

The Summer Challenge events will be held five days a week from July 2 to July 20. Sessions for girls will be held in the mornings and boys in the evenings.

The Sayfuna Mumayaz programme is open to pupils from kindergarten to Grade 12 and will run from July 2 to July 20 at 15 community centres across the emirate. The centres will start receiving registration applications on June 19, from 9am to 1pm and 4pm to 8pm.
