ABU DHABI // A majority of private schools inspected during this year and last year ranked as acceptable or better, according to the Abu Dhabi Education Council. The education regulator said it inspected 110 private schools, including 67 in Abu Dhabi, 39 in Al Ain and four in the Western Region.

As The National has previously reported, four schools were judged to be outstanding, 12 were very good, 27 were good, 38 were acceptable, 23 were weak and six were very weak.

“This is the first time we witness outstanding schools in Abu Dhabi, a great indicator that schools are doing a superb job, especially those who have shown significant improvement,” said Hamad Al Dhaheri, executive director of Adec’s Private Schools and Quality Assurance Sector.

Nineteen schools improved from band B to band A, and four schools jumped from band C to band A. Four schools downgraded their scores.

Private schools are inspected every 18 to 24 months, according to Adec. They are judged on six performance standards, as outlined in the UAE Inspection Framework, which was introduced across the country last year. Results showed that 40 per cent of schools performed good and above on student achievement; 62 per cent of schools scored good and above performance on students’ social and personal development; 39 per cent of schools ranked good and above performance in teaching and assessment; 34 per cent of schools were good and above on the quality of curriculum; 57 per cent of schools provided good and above in protection, care guidance and support of students; and 39 per cent of school leadership and management are good and above, according to Adec.

Inspection reports for each school are posted on Adec's website.
