Government schools in the northern Emirates are being given the chance to improve their libraries with funds from the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy. State schools in Fujairah, Ras al Khaimah, Umm al Qaiwain, Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai are eligible for grants of up to Dh100,000 for library development, the foundation announced yesterday. Fifteen schools are expected to receive funding through the awards, which are supported in part by a donation of Dh1 million from the General Holding Corp.
Peter Cleaves, the chief executive of the Emirates Foundation, said preference would be given to "co-funded projects" and schools in rural areas.
