The benefits of an internationally recognised student card will be available for the first time to the 12,000 students attending universities in Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Village. The free zone has formed a partnership with the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) Association on the JAWAZ project, which will enable students to prove inside and outside the country that they attend courses full-time, according to WAM, the state news agency.
Dubbed JAWAZ, which means passport, the ISIC-endorsed card is used by 4.5 million students in 120 countries, giving them access to various discounts, including on travel, shopping and entertainment, and is recognised by universities, student organisations and governments around the world. On campus, students will need their JAWAZ/ISIC cards to gain access to the recreation room, their student accommodation and other shared facilities. It will also entitle students to discounts at local shops.
The card, which is endorsed by, among others, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, will also be used to gather information the universities will use when choosing future programmes and making decisions on infrastructure. newsdesk@thenational.ae
