The Abu Dhabi Education Council said it would make exceptions over the minimum age for children at kindergarten this term.
Children who were no more than 30 days short of their fourth birthday by December 31 would be allowed to enrol for kindergarten 1, or prekindergarten, Adec told The National's sister publication, Al Ittihad.
Hamad Ali Al Dhaheri, Adec's executive director for the private-school sector and quality assurance, said the decision to allow exceptions to the admission-age rule was intended to solve enrolment issues related to twins and other siblings close in age.
The child's prospective school would be responsible for sending the parent's application for an exception, Adec said.
The Ministry of Education recently introduced a new admission policy for children entering kindergarten, requiring them to be 4 by December 31 to be able to register.
The Minister of Education, Hussain Al Hammadi, said that the minimum age requirement for pupils was subject to children's ability to learn at a certain age.
