ABU DHABI // A New York University Abu Dhabi student has landed the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship from the University of Oxford in England for next year.
Farah Shamout, 21, a senior majoring in Computer Engineering, is one of two UAE students to receive the award which gives students the opportunity to pursue their postgraduate studies at the English university.
The Jordanian said she plans to continue her biomedical engineering research she began at NYUAD in Oxford when she enrols in September, 2016.
“Studying at Oxford will provide me with the opportunity to further grow as a cosmopolitan leader,” said Ms Shamout.
Established in 1902 the Rhodes Scholarship is one of the world’s oldest and most selective international scholarships requiring university endorsement as well as in-person interviews.
Ms Shamout is the sixth NYUAD student to win the award and will be joining Khalifa University’s Fahad Alshaibani, the other UAE Rhode Scholar, at Oxford next year.
