The Higher Colleges of Technology, the largest federal institution with 17 colleges around the country, will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2012. Since 1988, the HCT has rapidly expanded, allowing many school leavers without resources or qualifications to continue learning in higher education.
Zayed University, in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, will roll out its foundation curriculum, preparing school leavers for their undergraduate degree entry. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Nahyan, issued instructions in the 2011/12 academic year for the university to overhaul its curriculum.
The UN's educational, scientific and cultural organisation's work in Sharjah, under Dr Christina Gitsaki, will launch a parent-focused project. In 2010-2011 its aim was focused on teacher training but for 2012 the emphasis will be to include Emirati parents as well as researching the impact parental involvement in education has on children's educational success.
At UAE University, its new campus for male students will be completed in Al Ain, meaning all male studies will be held at the same site.
