DUBAI // The Palm Jumeirah and Jumeirah Islands will be temporarily closed off to the public today as cyclists make their way to Atlantis The Palm hotel for the Dubai Tour.
Day two of the four-day event begins its 188-kilometre route at the Dubai International Marine Club, with the rest of the 671-kilometre journey leading cyclists through Dubai, Fujariah and Sharjah.
Al Qudra Road, from Allesely Street to Emirates Road, will be closed from 12pm until 1.15pm, the Roads and Transport Authourity said.
Between 12.45pm and 1.30pm, Emirates Road from Al Qudra Road to Sheikh Hamdan Compound, will be closed.
Streets in Motor City and Jumeirah Golf Estates will be closed from 1.15pm to 2.10pm and 1.25pm to 2.25pm, respectively.
Meanwhile, Al Asayel, Qarn Al Sabkha, Al Naseem and Al Falaq streets will be closed from 2pm until 3.15pm. Palm Jumeirah Street will be closed from 2.30pm until 3.30pm.
The third stage on Friday will take cyclists on a 172-kilometre stretch from the marine club to Hatta Dam.
Sharjah Police will close the road between Al Badayer and Al Madam, and Mleiha and Al Dhaid headed to Hatta between 12.30pm and 2pm.
On Saturday, cyclists will ride from the marine club to Business Bay following a 137-kilometre route around Dubai.
The event features top racers, including Al Nasr Pro Cycling Team and the Skydive Dubai Pro Cycling Team, and Team Wiggins, led by three-time Olympic Gold winner Sir Bradley Wiggins.
