DUBAI // A cooperative society worker is accused of inappropriately touching a 10-year-old girl as she shopped for vegetables with her mother and younger brother.

Pakistani defendant Q A, 31, was not at Dubai Criminal Court to enter a plea.

Prosecutors said that on October 13, Filipino M J, 33, took her 7-year-old son and daughter to the cooperative supermarket in Al Jafilia.

“I was picking some vegetables and my children were near me,” said the mother, who added that moments later her daughter came to her looking pale and scared.

“She told me that a worker at the cooperative had touched her bottom and squeezed it,” said the mother, who had her daughter identify the man for her.

The mother then confronted the defendant. “I asked what he did to my daughter and he just said he was sorry,” she said. “So I told him if he was sorry then he did it.”

She went to the cooperative’s manager and demanded to see recordings from the surveillance cameras before she filed a complaint.

“We saw him on the camera touching my daughter’s bottom so I called police,” said the mother.

The next hearing is arranged for December 24, to summon the defendant.
