Dubai Ruler calls for Flag Day to honour UAE’s past, present and future

Emiratis have been urged to fly the flag to honour the nation’s past, its present and its future.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, called for a national Flag Day campaign and appealed to all Emiratis to participate in a patriotic event planned for this week.

Flag Day is officially November 3, the anniversary of the accession of Sheikh Khalifa as President.

“The flag demonstrates our unity behind our leader … our love to him, and the pledge of the people to be loyal to him as a president and leader of the UAE,” Sheikh Mohammed said. He also directed federal departments and ministries to hoist the flag simultaneously on Wednesday at noon as a symbol of the unity of the UAE.

"The UAE flag represents the unity of our determination, will and potentials," Sheikh Mohammed said.

“It also represents the unity of our homeland and our shared vision and future and it unifies our hearts to adore our homeland and mobilises our energy and resources to build the future of our nation.”

Sheikh Mohammed said it was a day to remember the country’s founding fathers, who hoisted the flag for the first time 42 years ago, and the sacrifices that kept it flying high for four decades.

The flag is a sign of the country’s national pride, he said.

“Our flag is a source of dignity, strength, pride and respect of this people … let’s keep it flying aloft, and as a source of inspiration in every place and time.”
