Dubai Police to be out in force during Eid

Officers on horseback will patrol area around the Burj Khalifa while traffic teams will look out for dangerous driving.

DUBAI // More than 600 police patrols will be on duty around the emirate during the Eid Al Adha holidays to ensure public safety and ease traffic congestion.

Dubai CID will deploy more than 500 patrols, including 100 undercover teams, around the clock.

Another 100 traffic patrols will be active while six mounted police officers will be on duty in the Burj Khalifa area.

"Our main focus will be on shopping malls and parks, where the majority of people will go to enjoy their free time and celebrate," said Brig Khalil Al Mansouri, head of the CID.

Brig Al Mansouri urged members of the public planning to go abroad or taking long journeys by road to first secure their homes.

Officers will not tolerate any dangerous behaviour on the roads, said Lt Col Saif Al Mazroui, acting head of the Dubai Police traffic department.

"Patrols will ensure a smooth holiday by aiming to organise traffic in congested areas and cracking down on any dangerous or reckless driving," Lt Col Al Mazroui said.

Drivers on Jumeirah Beach Road will be a specific target.

"They are to intensify their work, especially during the nights when the practice increases," said Lt Col Al Mazroui.

A special team has also been set up to monitor traffic around the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa in an attempt to avoid bottlenecks.

Police in Deira will concentrate on jay walking, which officers say increases during Eid, particularly around the Al Nahda Road and Rashid Road areas.
