DUBAI // Dubai Metro’s lines are to be extended.
The Roads and Transport Authority is to extend the Red Line from Rashidiya to Mirdif and the Green Line from Al Jaddaf to Academic City, state news agency Wam reported.
Both are expected to be operational before 2020 – in line with the authority’s strategic plan – and work on both lines is expected to begin as early as next year.
The authority has yet to determine routes and station numbers but will address the issues when project design starts next year.
“The RTA is conducting more studies on the proposed extensions and the actual date to start work on the projects next year will be decided once the studies are complete. Irrespective of the start date, the projects will be in operation by 2020,” Abdullah Yousuf Al Ali, acting chief executive of the authority’s Rail Agency, told a local newspaper.
