Thousands of passengers were left stranded when a stretch of the Metro's Red Line shut down this afternoon.

A Metro spokeswoman said there was a power problem with utility Dewa, and operations managers were working to restore electricity to the line.

No one from Dewa was available for comment.

Passengers took to Twitter to report stopped trains at Noor Islamic Bank Metro Station on the Jebel Ali-bound line.

As an after-effect, there was a shortage of taxis when passengers disembarked from the stations during rush hour.
