DUBAI // A businessman who threatened two men with a meat cleaver when they tried to intervene in a fight he was having has been found guilty.
Emirati defendant K J, 36, was not present at Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday to enter a plea against charges of issuing threats to kill and of damaging property but he was found guilty and fined Dh10,000 in absentia.
The court had heard that Emiratis Y P, 37, and E A, 40, were leaving a mosque when they noticed two men having a fight in December last year.
“As I walked closer to the two men fighting, I heard one of them threatening everyone around against interfering, then he pulled out a meat cleaver from under his clothes and waived it in the air,” said Y P.
E A was also about to help break up the fight when he received a call. “I held my phone to answer then the defendant accused me of making a recording of him, so he snatched my Samsung and smashed it on the floor,” said E A, who then called police on another phone.
When the businessman was being arrested he started threatening the Y P and E A, saying that he would kill them.
