Dubai maid ‘threatened to chop off co-worker’s head’

DUBAI // A maid allegedly threatened to chop off her co-worker’s head before stealing the woman’s salary and running away from their employer, a court heard.

Prosecutors said Bangladeshi B B, 25, made the threats to S T, 30, from Nepal, after failing to convince her to abscond with her.

S T told prosecutors that B B tried to talk her into running away many times but she refused. “On February 13 this year, B B came to me and told me to run away with her, but I refused. She then threatened that she will come back in two days time with her friends and chop my head off.”

The maid told her sponsor that B B had left after stealing her salary. “She stole Dh5,000 that I had in my closet. B B knew I had the money and stole it when she ran away,” S T added.

Police were able to locate B B and arrested her at an apartment. “The apartment she was hiding in was used for prostitution,” said police officer A K, 24.

BB told prosecutors that she only stole Dh1,500 and gave it to Filipina she knew.

“She confessed to stealing the money and threatening to chop off ST’s head,” A K added.

At the Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday, B B denied charges of issuing threats and theft.

The next hearing is May 31.
