DUBAI // The number of cases filed with Dubai Courts increased by 14 per cent last year when compared with 2013.
According to an annual report released on Tuesday, the three primary, appeal and cassation courts recorded a combined number of 118,077 cases in 2014, up from 103,847 in 2013.
It also detailed that last year the number of criminal cases registered at the Court of First Instance was 46,466, while 9,708 were registered at the Court of Appeal and 940 at the Court of Cassation.
Civil cases registered at Dubai Courts rose 13 per cent, with the lower court accounting for the largest share, at 50,646 civil cases, followed by the Court of Appeals, at 7,932, and the Court of Cassation, at 2,385.
Convictions also increased by 10 per cent year-on-year, with 83,187 cases resulting in guilty verdicts.
Dubai Courts revealed it increased the number of Emirati employees by 11 per cent, to a total of 810 in 2014, compared to 728 in 2013.
