DUBAI // A man jailed for six months for assaulting and robbing a woman he met online had his sentence upheld.
T K, from Ukraine, met Emirati E M, 31, online in June 2012 and agreed to meet him at her hotel room so they could go to a nightclub.
But while she was getting ready he smashed a glass and waved it in her face, telling her to hand over her valuables, the prosecution said. When she gave him everything in her handbag he dragged her to the safe and told her to open it. She refused and he hit her with a bottle of alcohol, then punched her, the court heard.
Police were called and arrested him. They said they found her iPhone and Dh6,000 on him.
The man claimed to police the woman was a prostitute and had stolen money from his wallet.
He applied for a retrial after being sentenced in January.
However, his sentence was upheld on Thursday at Dubai Criminal Court.
