DUBAI // A 21-year-old baggage handler is accused of stealing a box of mixed nuts from a passenger’s bag.

Prosecutors told Dubai Criminal Court that Pakistani M A was seen on camera as he opened a passenger’s two bags that were being taken onto a flight to Birmingham from Dubai. However, he did not steal anything on this occasion.

“On April 5, as I was reviewing old camera footage, I saw him opening two bags on February 14 this year, but he found nothing and closed them,” testified K A, an Indian security supervisor at Emirates Airline.

Policeman M T, 42, testified that the defendant had confessed to him he had been opening passengers’ bags to look for food. Records show he is accused of stealing a box of mixed nuts from an unidentified passenger’s bag.

The defendant was not present in court to enter a plea.

A verdict will be issued on November 19.
