ABU DHABI // A du employee was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal Supreme Court for giving out confidential information to foreign agents.

Aisha Faruq Khan, from Pakistan, was convicted of giving out private information belonging to the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company.

The 33-year-old handed the information to people working for the governments of India and Pakistan.

“The accused used IT tools to uncover and have access to information pertaining to her employer, the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company. She used her workplace to access the information and submit it to foreign agents working for the governments of India and Pakistan,” said prosecution documents.

Khan was tried under the UAE’s Cybercrime Law No 5 of 2012, which criminalises electronic misuse. She has already served her sentence and will be deported immediately.
