DUBAI // A man who assaulted a motorist in a fit of rage over poor parking in Dubai Marina has been sentenced to three months in jail.

Russian A A, 24, was under the influence of alcohol when he approached Iranian M T, 27.

The Russian banged on the car window and told M T he had parked badly. When the Iranian got out of the car, A A punched him in the face.

S R, 24, the victim’s wife, told prosecutors that the Russian was shouting at her husband. “He screamed at my husband and punched him. Then he walked away but returned and punched my husband again.”

Police officer M M, 22, said in his report that he found M T bleeding from the nose. “There were several bruises on his right cheek. The couple told us that the man was drunk and that he was inside a building. We found several Russians inside and they directed us to the apartment where A A resides, where we arrested him,” the officer said.

During questioning, A A told police he had asked M T why he parked his car badly. “M T started screaming at me so I punched him,” the Russian said.

A medical report said that M T suffered 5 per cent disability as a result of the attack on September 23 last year.

A A did not appear in court to face charges of assault and of drinking alcohol without a permit. He was sentenced to three months in jail and fined Dh2,000 for drinking alcohol without a licence.
