DUBAI // A drunken sailor stabbed his colleague on-board the boat where they both worked, Dubai Criminal Court has heard.
Indian A R, 34, is charged with the premeditated murder of M P on August 15 last year. Prosecutors said he stabbed the man with a kitchen knife in the chest, abdomen and ear.
“The victim did not try to assault him. I heard A R issuing insults against the victim and, when the victim asked him to stop, he just walked straight towards a shelf where there were knives and forks,” said fisherman R J, who witnessed the murder.
“He picked up a knife and stabbed the man three times and, when the victim fell to the ground, he tried to stab him again but we restrained him.”
He said that the incident occurred at about 7pm on the boat, which was docked at Al Hamriya, in Bur Dubai.
“He even kicked him when he was on the floor bleeding,” added another fisherman, Y B, 38.
The police and ambulance arrived to find the defendant sitting on the boat and the victim bleeding heavily. The man died on the way to hospital.
“He insulted me and I just held the knife to scare him, I didn’t meant to kill him, but when he did not stop insulting me, I stabbed him,” said the defendant in court, who also said that he was drunk.
The next hearing will be on January 28.
