Dubai Police have referred a Jordanian man to Ajman Police after he was found trying to cut parts of his body with a knife while praising Satan and cursing God publicly, heard Dubai Criminal Court.

The man was charged after being found drunk and taken into custody at Dubai Airport Police Station.

As they approached the station, the man turned violent and began slashing himself with a blade he was hiding in his wallet. The paramedics were called and, with the help of the police, they were able to calm the “uncooperative” man and treat injuries sustained around his body.

“Once the paramedics finished, he became enraged for no clear reasons and started hailing Satan and cursing God,” said prosecutors in their detailed statement to court.

A police officer, 36, said the 28-year-old man lost his temper when they offered to send him to hospital and that the drunkard became “furious, aggressive and started hailing the devil.”

Prosecutors said the man was visiting the UAE and on the day of the incident, July 3,  he was waiting for his plane to return to his country.
"I don't recall anything your honour, I was heavily drunk," said the man to presiding judge, Fahd Al Shamsi.

The man told the prosecution he had drank while in Ajman and will be referred to the courts in the emirate to face charges of consuming alcohol without a license.

As for attempting suicide, the defendant was not faced with the charge as a medical report indicated his injuries were not fatal nor were they meant to end his life.
He faced blasphemy charges in court which he denied on Sunday. A verdict will be issued on October 15.
