DUBAI // A janitor raped a roommate after getting severely drunk, a court heard on Thursday.

Pakistani MR, 31, said he cannot remember what happened but he denies attacking Nepali roommate GT, 22, on January 2.

The Nepali told police: ““All of the flatmates had left the apartment except me and the defendant. He was drinking alcohol heavily.

“While I was sitting minding my own business, he launched himself on me and grabbed me from behind. I couldn’t free myself because he was stronger than me.”

GT then described how he was raped for 15 minutes before he went to building security, who called police.

Sudani Policeman AA, 45, said he found the Pakistani laying on the bed in his room.

“The defendant reeked with the smell of alcohol,” said the policeman.

A forensic report showed that there were signs of sexual intercourse on the victim, and DNA samples from the victim’s body matched that of the defendant.

At Dubai Criminal Court, the Pakistani denied the rape charge and told the presiding judge that he was totally drunk at the time and he can’t remember anything.

He added that he cannot afford to hire a lawyer so the judge requested for one to be assigned.

The next hearing is on June 12.
