ABU DHABI // Two men filmed in a drug deal with undercover police were “clueless”, and thought the substance they were trying to sell was bodybuilding pills, not heroin, a defence lawyer has said.
The Criminal Court was on Monday played a video of the two Pakistanis, accused of possessing heroin to sell, with the officers in a car.
It showed A S and N M in the back seat and the two officers in the front.
In the film, A S eventually hands an officer a plastic bag and is given a large amount of cash.
There were some laughs in court when the film showed the defendants did not know how to count it.
“You can see how clueless they are in the video,” said Dr Eman Al Jaberi, representing N M. “They are just happy to be receiving money and they don’t even know how to count it.”
Dr Al Jaberi also claimed that a witness against the defendants smelt strongly of alcohol when he testified.
“He kept drinking water, because alcohol dries the liquids in the body,” she said.
Dr Al Jaberi said the defendants had been forced to confess to the crime, and that the public prosecution permit was invalid because it was not written.
She said the officers only identified the time and place for the undercover deal after the permit was issued. A verdict is scheduled to be announced on May 19.
