Drug addicted school pupils turn themselves in to Abu Dhabi Police

Two young brothers have handed themselves into authorities after becoming addicted to drugs.

ABU DHABI // Two young brothers have handed themselves into authorities after becoming addicted to drugs.

Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National, reported that the elder of the brothers, a Year 9 pupil, was influenced to take drugs by a friend.

His younger brother, a pupil in Year 7, found his stash of pills, took them and also became addicted.

Their family found out about their drugs problem and took them to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics.

By voluntarily handing themselves in, under UAE law their case was considered pathological not criminal and they have received treatment.

Any case of drug abuse can be confidentially reported to the General Department for Anti-Narcotics by calling 800 400 400.
