Drivers in RAK fined for defective tires in police crackdown

RAS AL KHAIMAH // Police have issued 42 fines to drivers in Ras Al Khaimah for defective tires following a recent inspection campaign reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.

The Department of Traffic and Patrols at the general command of Ras Al Khaimah Police explained the various types of accidents and injuries that could result from defective tires, showing accident photos and handing out safety manuals that contain tips and tire specifications.

Lt Col Ahmed Saeed Alsom Al Naqbi, head of the Traffic Awareness and Media Department at RAK Police urged vehicle owners to perform periodic checks so as to avoid serious and deadly accidents.

He added that police patrols were present at various locations to identify vehicles that did not comply with tires validity rules and issue fines accordingly, with focus on heavy vehicles that represent a bigger danger for road users.
