DUBAI // A driver sexually abused his employer’s 13-year-old son, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.
Prosecutors said that the Pakistani defendant, 26, worked as a driver for an Emirati manager’s family in April last year until he was sacked after a month.
The father said last September he became concerned something was wrong when his son became tense after receiving a phone call while they were at Dubai International Airport.
“I asked my son who the caller was and he claimed it was his friend, but I took his phone and checked it and found that it was the driver who called him,” said the father.
He said he found a voice message from the defendant asking his son to meet him.
“I asked my son why was he meeting with the driver after he had left working for us. He said he and his friends were still using his services to drive them around but I still felt something was wrong,” he said.
The father said he persuaded his son to tell the truth and the boy admitted the driver was sexually abusing him.
“He told me that the driver molested him once in the car and made a recording of the incident, after which he started blackmailing him with the recording and molested him several more times,” he said.
The boy told police he was afraid to inform his parents about the abuse but managed to delete the clip the driver made of him, after which he stopped answering the defendant’s calls. The driver denied the charges of sexual assault and issuing threats.
A verdict is expected on August 25.
