DUBAI // A taxi driver who tried to flirt with a woman by offering her his mobile phone to call home ended up molesting her when she turned him down, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

Filipina M P, 29, told prosecutors that on June 14 at 2am she was chatting with friends at the entrance of her building when Egyptian A A, 23, approached her.

“My friends departed and I walked inside my building. He followed me and tried to flirt. He then offered me his phone to call my home country. I told him I have a phone and can use it if I wanted,” M P said.

On the way up to her flat on the fifth floor, A A pushed M P against the wall, restrained her hands and started kissing her against her will.

She resisted and was able to free one hand and hit A A. But she could not stop him from touching her body and continuing to kiss her.

“The door of the lift opened and I tried to get out but he pulled me inside and continued his assault.

“I was screaming and resisting,” said M P, who managed to run away when the lift doors opened again.

She called police and the driver was arrested.

A A was not present in court to enter a plea against molestation charges.

The next hearing will be held on Thursday to summon him.
