DUBAI // A man was killed after losing control of his car at high speed, causing it to crash and burst into flames.
The accident happened on Al Sheikh Rashid Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning, said Col Saif Al Mazrouei, head of the General Department of Traffic.
“The man who died was from Saudi Arabia, and he was driving a white Range Rover rental very recklessly and at dangerous speeds. It was one of the most awful scenes, because the car was almost unrecognisable and the car, along with the driver, went up in flames,” he said.
Col Al Mazrouei said the incident took place at around 2.30am on Tuesday near the Dubai Police Officers Club.
“Police patrols rushed to the scene as soon as we received the report of the incident where they cordoned off the area,” he said. “It was clear that the driver was going at an insane speed, lost control, went up a pavement and hit a tree.
“The impact was so severe that all four doors of the vehicle flew off, and the car was in pieces and on fire.”
Col Saif Al Mazrouei said the police recorded two other accidents in which five people were injured in the past two days.
