DUBAI // A driver has been found not guilty by Dubai Criminal Court of threatening to burn down his female Emirati sponsor’s house.
The court heard that on November 2, 2013, businesswoman M A, 43, attended the Ministry of Labour after Pakistani A A, 24, filed a complaint against her because he wanted to end his employment and return home.
“I told him that he owes me Dh28,000, which he has to pay me before I let him return to his country, then I walked away,” M A said.
Three days later, M A said she received a text message from A A’s number in a mixture of English and Urdu. She showed the message to her Pakistani business partner, who translated the message as: “I will burn your house and I know where the schools of your children are located.”
The Emirati said the message included foul language, so she reported A A to the police.
Prosecutors charged the driver with issuing threats and insulting M A. He denied the charges when he appeared in court in March last year. He said the sim card used did not belong to him.
A A was acquitted of all charges.
