DUBAI // A driver has admitted to a string of thefts from worshippers while they prayed at a mosque.

On Sunday, M K, 24, a Pakistani, appeared at Dubai Criminal Court charged with disrespecting a place of worship and theft.

The court was told that on August 13 Indian sales officer A A A, 31, was partaking in Al Maghrib prayers at Al Qarq Mosque in Al Karama.

After he finished his prayers, A A A noticed that someone had taken his bag, which contained a mobile phone, ID cards, bank cards and Dh200 in cash.

M M, 34, a Jordanian machinery operator, told the court he was also a victim of theft during the same prayers at the mosque.

“I lost my bag, which had my IDs and other personal belongings in it,” he said.

At a previous case last week, the court heard that A A, 26, an Indian accountant, had his laptop stolen at the Al Qarq Mosque.

When police arrested M K, it was found he had a record of similar thefts.

For these, he had been sentenced to a month in prison followed by deportation.

M K confessed to the three new thefts and is awaiting a verdict on October 29.
