The future home of horse-racing in Dubai was unveiled for the first time today, just weeks ahead of its first event. Meydan, built at an estimated costs of Dh10 billion (US$2.73bn), has risen from the desert on a site next to Nad Al Sheeba, which has hosted the Dubai World Cup for the past 14 years. The vast site, which will also includes business and residential districts across its 18 square kilometres, will have a capacity of more than 60,000 when complete. The media was invited today to view Meydan, with a focus on the racetrack and the 1.6km grandstand, which also features a five-star hotel, a racing museum, hospitality suites, and an Imax cinema. Saeed Al Tayer, the chairman of Meydan, said he expected 300,000 spectators to visit Dubai's new home of racing during its opening season, which begins on January 28 and concludes with the Dubai World Cup in March.
He said: "At Meydan, we have facilities we have never had before and will be bringing racegoers as close to the action as possible. We are hosting the most expensive races in the world and Meydan was benchmarked against the world's top racecourses to ensure the best racing experience." What is hepatitis?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, which can lead to fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis or liver cancer.
There are 5 main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E.
Hepatitis C is mostly transmitted through exposure to infective blood. This can occur through blood transfusions, contaminated injections during medical procedures, and through injecting drugs. Sexual transmission is also possible, but is much less common.
People infected with hepatitis C experience few or no symptoms, meaning they can live with the virus for years without being diagnosed. This delay in treatment can increase the risk of significant liver damage.
There are an estimated 170 million carriers of Hepatitis C around the world.
The virus causes approximately 399,000 fatalities each year worldwide, according to WHO.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

How to join and use Abu Dhabi’s public libraries
• There are six libraries in Abu Dhabi emirate run by the Department of Culture and Tourism, including one in Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
• Libraries are free to visit and visitors can consult books, use online resources and study there. Most are open from 8am to 8pm on weekdays, closed on Fridays and have variable hours on Saturdays, except for Qasr Al Watan which is open from 10am to 8pm every day.
• In order to borrow books, visitors must join the service by providing a passport photograph, Emirates ID and a refundable deposit of Dh400. Members can borrow five books for three weeks, all of which are renewable up to two times online.
• If users do not wish to pay the fee, they can still use the library’s electronic resources for free by simply registering on the website. Once registered, a username and password is provided, allowing remote access.

When Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi
