DUBAI // Experts from Dubai Customs have trained Government employees and customs inspectors from the UAE and GCC on the latest techniques in spotting counterfeit goods.
The week-long workshop enabling inspectors to distinguish between original and fake products was set up in co-operation with international companies and trademark owners.
"The workshop was conducted with the participation of delegations from Saudi Arabian and Qatari Customs, Ministry of Economy, National Media Council, Federal Customs Authority, other customs departments in the UAE and local departments concerned with intellectual property rights," said Yosif Ozair, administration manager for intellectual property rights at Dubai Customs.
IPR specialists at Dubai Customs and officials from international companies presented 21 papers during the event.
The French fashion brand, Louis Vuitton, and pharmaceutical giant, Sanofi-Aventis, were among the businesses that participated.
"I have extended business with Dubai Customs, which I believe is one of the most advanced customs authorities in the world. Not only does Dubai Customs protect the international brands, but it also builds systems for protecting local, regional and international society," said Anthony Brelet, Customs Attaché at the French Embassy.
"Adding to that are the activities it carries out, such as the awareness campaigns to educate the public and employees, in addition to the great co-operative relations it has with the respective local and international authorities," he said.
